Mari 8 is now fully supported with the Release of Mari Extension Pack 2027.
If you do not have Mari 8 - don't worry. We provide older versions of Extension Pack that are compatible with Mari 7, 6 etc. all the way to Mari 3.
A major rewrite (under the hood)
To support Mari 8's transition to Qt6/PySide6, Mari Extension Pack underwent one of the largest internal rewrites in its history.
Over the past six months, nearly 40% of the codebase has been rewritten and modernized to ensure full native compatibility with Mari 8.
While much of this work happened behind the scenes, it brings several important benefits for users.
Faster, more Responsive and supporting high DPI
As part of the rewrite, we took the opportunity to optimize large parts of the codebase. Many tools and user interface elements are now more responsive, resulting in a smoother day-to-day workflow.
We also updated all our icons to vector graphics. While Mari 8's Icons are still bitmaps that means Extension Pack icons will be crisp and sharp on high DPI displays !
More stability
A software of this size inevitably accumulates small issues over the years. During the refactoring process we uncovered and fixed a number of hidden bugs and edge cases.
While many of these issues were rare and unlikely to affect most users, eliminating them should make Mari Extension Pack even more robust.
Fewer new features overall but BIG new ones
Alongside the rewrite, Mari Extension Pack 2026 also introduces some
major new features such as
- native support to read and modify Substance .sbsar files
- A freely configurable nodegraph dock
- a brand new image manager with folders
- screen space ambient occlusion
- and more.
Is 2027 a Paid Upgrade?
Mari Extension Pack 2027 is a paid upgrade for previous customers that purchased before September 1st, 2025. For users having purchased Mari Extension Pack 6 after that date, the update is free.
Mari Extension Pack is developed by a single person
Every few years, Extension Pack needs a major release to help fund continued development, maintenance, and support. Without those upgrades, we simply couldn't dedicate the time needed to keep Extension Pack evolving alongside Mari.
The good news is that this rewrite lays the groundwork for the next few years and we already have an exciting roadmap of new features in development.
We will immediately start on adding new features for our next release which will be a free upgrade to 2027 customers.
