Do I really need Extension Pack ? What benefits does it give me

Extension Pack is aimed at speeding up Mari workflows substantially and providing Tools and Nodes it is missing natively, while simultaneously addressing some of the worst Mari User Experience flaws.

Mari itself is a powerful and complex Texturing Application, that in itself receives regular updates. So it can operate on its own without Extension Pack and a number of Mari Users work fine with it, without owning Extension Pack

If you are only a sporadic Mari User, Extension Pack may only give you some benefits. If however you spend a lot of time in Mari, the time savings and quality of life it provides can be substantial.

Mari Extension Pack is created and shaped by actual Mari Power Users. We use what we create. We create because we see a Problem or a missing feature

Is it true that Mari 8 implemented some Extension Pack Features ?

Mari 8 added a handful of popular Extension Pack Nodes natively to the core application.
Namely the Math nodes included in Extension Pack are largely now native inside Mari.
Axis Projection, AB Wipe and Color Range to Mask also now have equivalents as native Mari Implementations (they are not copies of Extension Pack but have overlap with Extension Pack's Nodes) though Extension Pack's own nodes still currently offer more functionality.

As both Extension Pack and the Foundry aim to provide the best value and feature set for Mari, naturally if Foundry does a good job, they will identify gaps in features over time and try to plug them. 

As it stands Extension Pack has several hundred nodes and tools that native Mari does not offer, so we feel Extension Pack continues to elevate Mari far beyond its native functionality. A handful of copies of Extension Pack nodes inside Mari do not replace Extension Pack and Extension Pack continues to be relied on by Studios as an essential add-on for Mari.


What if I learn Mari Extension Pack and then work in a studio that does not have it ? 

One of the most frequent concerns, especially from Students and new Users of Mari who are afraid of developing a reliance on Mari Extension Pack.

1. Extension Pack is widely used in studios. Pretty much all Studios that use Mari in a substantial way for texturing do in fact have Mari Extension Pack. It is however true that smaller studios which may only have 1 or 2 Mari Licenses to supplement other solutions like Substance Painter, are less likely to use Mari Extension Pack. 

2. Extension Pack is not "black magic". In fact more than half of it uses Mari's built-in API, combined in new ways to reduce the amount of effort it takes to achieve a goal. That means that with Extension Pack, a workflow may be only 1 click  - while without it may be 100. But it is still possible without Extension Pack. 
That being said, of course Extension Pack does allow many things that you simply cannot do in Mari without it. 


In the end we believe it is a question of how much of your Texturing you actually do in Mari. If you are only sporadically using it - then Extension Pack may not be for you. If you use Mari at least 50% in your Texturing we do think it will be worth your time.



Who is behind Mari Extension Pack ?

Extension Pack is an independent development project. Extension Pack has no direct affiliation with The Foundry, the developers of Mari.

Mari Extension Pack was created as a loose collection of tools and nodes in 2012 by Miguel Santiago and Jens Kafitz.
Since 2015 it is exclusively developed and owned by Jens Kafitz.

Jens Kafitz is a professional Texture Artist and Pipeline Developer with 25 years experience in the VFX, Animation and Product Industry. He continues to work in the field while simultaneously developing Mari Extension Pack as a "side hustle".

License Types, Updates & Trials

Is Extension Pack a Subscription ? Do I have to pay monthly ?

No.
Most of our licenses are perpetual. You buy it - you own it forever.

We do however offer optional yearly Subscription seats which are valid as long as the Subscription is active. This is purely an addition to existing perpetual license offers and does not replace them.

When I purchase, will I receive free upgrades ? 

Purchasing a perpetual license will give you access to 1 year of free upgrades guaranteed.
We may extend the period at our own discretion to provide the best value to customers. 

For example, if a year contained mostly maintenance releases we usually try to include the next major feature release as a free update even if the new release is over the 1 year period.

In the past users usually received between 1 and 4 free updates, with one extreme case of 9 free updates in a row over the course of 4 years.

Subscription users will have access to all updates as long as their subscription is active.




I own a previous Mari Extension Pack Version, can I upgrade it to the current one ? 

You can update your Extension Pack Version via the Upgrade Page.
You will need your previously used email and the License Key of the Extension Pack version you already own.

If you purchased Mari Extension Pack 6 after August 31st, 2025 the Upgrade to Mari Extension Pack 2027 is free.

I have already purchased but want to upgrade my license to another type

Do you offer Trials ? 

We offer Trials on demand. Please reach out to us via the Contact Form. Please note Trials always require an internet connection.

Do you offer Student Licenses ? 

Please refer to our dedicated Page for student licenses for information how to request a student license.
Student Licenses are valid for 1 year and can be activated a total of 2 times. We charge an administrative fee of 7 EUR for processing student licenses

Can I install Extension Pack on multiple machines ?

We generally allow installation of Extension Pack on multiple machines as long as the simultaneous use does not exceed the license quantity you own. So it's ok to install it on your home machine and laptop. We do however enforce activation limits (see below).

Is there a limit how often I can activate Mari Extension Pack ? 

Yes. We enforce seat limits corresponding to your license tier.

E.g. an Indie License can be activated on a maximum of 2 machines (for example your laptop and home machine). 

Seats can be managed and transferred with Extension Pack's built-in Seat Manager Tool in the Licensing Dialog and an online version here

Note that each Mari Extension Pack version you are running consumes a separate license activation.

How do I license older Mari Extension Pack Versions ? 

If you have downloaded older Mari Extension Pack versions that were part of your purchase, license them the same way as you would your most current Mari Extension Pack Version e.g. if you purchased Mari Extension Pack 2027 and want to activate Mari Extension Pack 6, use the purchase email and license key from Extension Pack 2027

Please note, that activating an older Mari Extension Pack Version consumes a License Activation even if Mari Extension Pack 2027 was already activated on the same machine


Requirements

Which Mari Version do I need to use Extension Pack ? 

Extension Pack 2027 is compatible exclusively with Mari 8.x

Because of the tight integration of Extension Pack into Mari, occasionally a Mari minor Version release may break compatibility.
We usually provide a patch/minor version update to restore compatibility within weeks of the affected Mari release date.


If you do not have Mari 8.x and want to use Extension Pack with previous Mari Versions, we provide compatible previous versions as part of the purchase. All purchases will include previous Extension Pack Versions that are compatible with for example Mari 7, 6, 5 etc.

I do not have the latest Mari Version, can I still use Extension Pack ?

We do provide older Mari Extension Pack Versions for older Mari Versions as part of the purchase.

Major Mari Extension Pack Versions are usually tied to major Mari Versions as there are programming library dependencies that require plugins to be built against certain versions.

For example, Mari Extension Pack 6 (included in the Purchase of the current Version) is compatible with Mari 6.x and Mari 7.x

Mari Extension Pack 2027 is compatible with Mari 8.x

Does Mari Extension Pack need Internet connectivity to work  ?

For individual licenses (e.g. indie, freelance etc.), educational licenses and trials, Extension Pack requires an Internet Connection to validate the License. After activation it sporadically needs to reconnect to revalidate the license. 

For studio site licenses Extension Pack provides License Server functionality, allowing you to operate it in an air-gapped environment.

For Small Business Bundles license server functionality can be activated after purchase, removing the need for Internet Connectivity.

Subscription Licenses do always need internet and it cannot be deactivated

I have a charge from LEMSQZY* STORE on my Bank Statement

We use Lemon Squeezy as our Merchant of Record. Extension Pack payments will be charged by LEMSQZY* MARIEXTENSION  on your Bank records or card details. More information here

What payment options do you offer ?

Our Merchant Lemon Squeezy accepts the following payment methods through the web checkout

  • Cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, JCB and China UnionPay from customers worldwide)
  • PayPal
  • Apple Pay (Safari only)
  • Google Pay (Chrome only)
  • Alipay

When I pay the displayed amount is different from what I expected

Differences in prices on checkout come from the following:

1. We list all prices on our website without sales tax. Sales tax is applied on checkout and varies depending on your location

2. We list all prices on our website in EUR. Your invoice also will list prices in EUR. However our Merchant of Record is a US company and the actual purchase will be performed in US Dollars. As EUR is often valued higher than USD depending on the day rate a purchase price of e.g. 48 EUR will translate to 56 USD.

Do you accept Purchase Orders / Wire Transfers ?

We accept purchase orders from Studios. The minimum payable amount needs to be 1300 EUR for purchase orders to be accepted. Please reach out to us if you require purchase via a purchase order.

Please be aware we have strict payment rules for Purchase Orders. The exact invoice due date time may vary but usually is within 15 days of receiving the license. We reserve the right to terminate issued licenses with previous notice if payment is not made after 2 reminders.

Credit Card Chargebacks & fraudulent Purchases

Occasionally a customer may issue a chargeback on their credit card to retrieve the purchase price of Mari Extension Pack, after the purchase went through.

Sometimes this may be legitimate e.g. if the customer's credit card was stolen and a 3rd party used it without authorization to purchase Mari Extension Pack.
However more often than not chargebacks are done by bad actors trying to find a way to access the software "for free" by paying, then re-appropriating the money through their credit card company.

Please be aware of the following when considering a chargeback

  • A chargeback immediately invalidates the issued license. Mari Extension Pack will no longer work after the next license check (usually within 2 days)

  • A chargeback immediately blocks the Credit Card from being used again for payments done through Stripe and/or Paypal. As Stripe and Paypal are some of the main payment services on the internet, this will affect your ability to purchase other things online

  • A chargeback results in the used email address being blocked for use with Mari Extension Pack. This will affect both past and future license purchases !

If you are the victim of fraud we recommend you reach out to us first and we can resolve the issue with a regular refund and deactivate the issued license immediately.

Download Extension Pack

I have purchased a previous Version of Mari Extension Pack. Where can I download it ? 

Previous Mari Extension Pack versions up to version 6 (e.g. Extension Pack 4, 5 and 6) were sold via the Merchant gumroad.com.

If you purchased via Gumroad, please

  • login to your Gumroad account and check your "Library" to download the old Version
  • alternatively use the link included in the original purchase email

Note, that we include old Versions also in purchases done via our new Merchant lemonsqueezy.com, so if you e.g. buy the current Extension Pack Version, you will have access to Mari Extension Pack Versions like 4, 5 and 6 etc

I have purchased Mari Extension Pack 2027. Where can I download it ? 
  • Immediately after a purchase you can download via the Order Confirmation Page
  • alternatively (and indefinitely) you can download your files using your email receipt.

If you don't have your email receipt handy, you can also log into the My Orders Portal to view your orders and download content.
